True safety and security start with establishing a proper and solid foundation. In fact, the proper foundation alone plays the most important role in ultimate safety and security, regardless of anything else that you do beyond establishing this foundation. Some of the most critical elements of true safety and security are a change in the way that we think about violence, and the prevention and risk of violence; creating an understanding of the problems that proposed solutions are meant to correct; it must establish that true safety and security is an individual responsibility rather than an organizational responsibility; and it must create a desire in your employees to learn more - on their own; and it must be easily achievable. So, why is it that while we are at home with our families, we don’t even mention it in passing, let alone have a plan? Often times the Reason: We don’t know how to broach the conversation and if we do have the conversation, we don’t know what to tell our loved ones.
