Course Information:
This full-day course will strengthen clerks’ knowledge of major subject areas. For veteran clerks, it will provide a refresher on the basics as well as some in-depth discussion of specific areas of concern. New clerks will benefit from the broad-based discussion of the office of clerk, its duties, obligation and administration. Both will gain insights from an examination of statutory changes and modifications to state agency rules that affect the office of clerk.
Topics include: Basics of the Position, Municipal Records and Freedom of Access Law, Clerk’s Records, Ordinances and Charters, Conflict of Interest, Elections, Basic Vital Records and Issuance of Licenses.
Please note: ALL participants should have a copy of the Municipal Clerks Manual (updated January 2021) to refer to throughout the training, as Instructors teach directly from this manual. Manuals may also be downloaded for free from MMA’s website (www.memun.org), under the Member Center.
Certification: This class is a mandatory course for the Maine Town & City Clerks’ Association’s certification program.
CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE
In Person - A certificate of attendance will be provided to you onsite on the day of the training and MUST be picked up at the event. Certificates of attendance are not mailed or reproduced.
Cancellations MTCCA Hybrid In-Person/Virtual Events:
Cancellations must be submitted using this Cancellation form to cancel your registration for an event. Cancellations received before 7/16/24 will be assessed a $15 administrative fee for processing. Registration changes (switching from in-person to virtual or vice versa) will be assessed a $15 administrative fee for processing. Cancellations received on/after 7/16/24 will be charged 50% of the course fee. Any registrant who does not attend and does not cancel their registration (i.e., no-show) and any cancellation received the day of the event will be charged the full registration fee. Exceptions to this policy will not be considered.
