Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) In First Responders: A Staged Reading & Facilitated Discussion
Performance by New Hampshire Theater Project’s Elephant-in-the-Room Series®. Aftermath is the story of one firefighter and how the reverberations of a tragic accident triggers his PTS and profoundly affects his life, as well as his family and colleagues.
This realistic portrayal of the life of a first responder explores the mental, physical, and employment consequences that PTS has on our employees. The discussion will help Managers new and old be better aware of the support our employees need and what steps we need to take to provide the services our communities demand.
After the reading a facilitated discussion will take place with panelists who are familiar with the topic including Dr. Nicole Sawyer, Doctor of Psychology, and specialist in the treatment of PTS; Durham Police Captain Jack Dalton; Durham Deputy Fire Chief Rob Atwater; and Playwright Tim Barretto.
